Can I work in teams?
All kindergarten – 3rd grade students can work as a whole class. All 4th-12th grade students can work individually up to a team of 3.
Is there a project I can not do?
There are rules about what types of projects you can do in regards to safety. You should check out the requirements for all projects (https://sjcoesciencefair.weebly.com/requirements.html ).

How should I dress on fair day?
We encourage that students dress in professional attire for interviews.

Can my parents stay with me during the fair?
Yes, parents may stay with their students.
How do I as a teacher help a student register?
Each participating school must appoint a science fair coordinator/teacher or point-of-contact person to first register their school site for the SCJOE STEAM Fair between September 1, 2021 and November 30, 2021. Participating sites will then receive a follow-up registration link for students in January 2022. Teachers should follow up with students to make sure their registration is complete and that only the top winning projects of their school site move on to the STEAM Fair.
HOw long should I expect to be there during the judging?
Judging takes place between 10am- 3pm on the day of the fair (February 26, 2022). Updates on when specific grade levels will be judged will be provided after registration has closed.
5 minutes are allotted for interviews for each project. Students should prepare a short speech about their project and expect some follow-up questions.

What happens when someone wins at the county level?
Winners from grades 6-12 are qualified to move on and participate at the CA Science and Engineering Fair (state level)
Do I have to come to the award ceremony?
No, although the awards ceremony has been moved to the same day as the STEAM Fair (February 26, 2022) for convenience.
You do not have to attend the award ceremony but you or your teacher will have to make sure your project is picked up. We suggest taking the project home at the conclusion of the STEAM Fair on February 26, 2022.

Every school site that intends to participate, must first register as a school site. One person should be chosen as the Science Fair Coordinator and/or Point-of-Contact person. This individual must register their school site between September 1, 2021 and November 1, 2021.
Beginning in January 2022, all school sites that are registered, will receive a link to begin registering students to participate in the STEAM Fair. Registration for students will close on February 14, 2022.
***You should note that submission of necessary paperwork for restricted projects that require pre-approval from the SRC and/or IRB must be submitted before November 30, 2021. Time must be allotted for the SJCOE review committee to approve restricted projects before experimentation can begin.
