he SJCOE STEAM Fair is:
  • open to all K - 12 students who attend school in San Joaquin County and have a teacher or qualified adult sponsor.
  • intended as a secondary fair.  Schools in our county should hold independent Science Fairs before submitting projects to SJCOE.
  • a qualifying fair for the CSEF- California State Science and Engineering Fair.

Each year San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) STEAM Fair awards thousands of dollars to students of San Joaquin County who exhibit superior levels of understanding and articulation in the area of science, engineering, technology, and mathematics.

Our vision is to celebrate opportunities in STEAM education that inspire and empower all students to be innovative, creative, and determined Makers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.  Our mission is to provide equitable opportunities and access to develop and share STEAM Fair projects and explore hands-on STEAM exhibitions and phenomena.

Top students with competitive projects proceed to the California State Science and Engineering Fair (6th - 12th grade).

Number of Projects Allowed per School Site:

Investigative Projects require students to explore a phenomenon and/or problem and must follow the Scientific Method and Engineering Design Process. (Think “traditional” science & engineering fair project)

Showcase Projects provide an opportunity for students to explore their interests in STEAM-related topics and develop a project highlighting their understanding and inquiry process. (Think “Project-Based Learning” such as Rube-Goldberg Machines, Reverse Engineering, Science Fiction Writing, Mixed-Media Art, Robotics and Computation).
